Crafting Spectacle Frames

The Process Behind COCO LENI's Luxurious Eyewear

The process

When it comes to the art of creating eyeglasses, the process is both complex and intricate. For COCO LENI, a brand that prides itself on offering only the finest in luxury eyewear, the process is all about paying attention to every single detail.

COCO LENI is proud to say that we are one of the few brands that actually manufactures our frames ourselves. Located in the beautiful region of Goa, India, our skilled artisans take great care to produce spectacles that are not only beautiful but also comfortable and durable.

In the spirit of transparency, we'd like to share the process we use to make our core collection and secret collections of spectacles and sunglasses.

Here is how we craft our COCO LENI spectacles:

Sourcing Quality Materials

We believe that the best materials create the best products. That's why we source our buffalo horn from India and our acetate from Europe. Our buffalo horn is ethically sourced, ensuring that we provide our customers with a product that is not only luxurious but also sustainable.

Cutting and Machining

Our frames are designed with timelessness in mind. To create them, we use a combination of precision cutting and machining techniques. From the buffalo horn and acetate sheets, our artisans carefully craft each frame to ensure that it is of the highest quality.

Lens Grooves and Counter Boring

Cutting the lens grooves is a delicate process that requires a steady hand and a lot of patience. Our artisans use a custom-built table and cutting tool to create a small channel in the inner periphery of the lens hole. In addition, we use a handheld-drill to create four small recesses in the acetate frame front. This process ensures that our frames can be fitted with lenses without compromising their structural integrity.

Riveting

Rivets hold together the strongest of structures, and our spectacles are no exception. Using a combination of tradition and precision, our artisans use a pneumatic riveting machine to permanently fasten our five tenon hinges to our frames and temples.

Curving

Curves not only make our frames comfortable to wear, but they also allow for lenses to fit more easily. To achieve this, our artisans use a self-built pneumatic press to heat our frame fronts and curve them to the desired shape. Afterward, the frames are plunged into cold water to maintain their shape.

In addition to these processes, we also use tumbling polishing and media blasting to achieve the desired finish on our frames. Finally, assembly involves using small 1mm dowel screws to join the frame front to the temples via our riveted hinges, creating a stable and high-quality hinge action.
