What is blue light?
It’s time for some basic science, don’t worry it’s rather simple to understand. Sunlight is made up of a combination of colours that form a spectrum. Each of the colours in the spectrum have a different wavelength and therefore have different levels of energy. Red has the highest wavelength and hence the least amount of energy, whereas blue is the shortest wavelength with the most amount of energy.
Therefore, blue light is simply the visible rays of the colour blue that are found in a spectrum and release a high amount of energy.
Sources of Blue Light
Blue light is found everywhere and the largest source of it is sunlight. We find it around us every day in sources such as Fluorescent lights, CFL bulbs, LED lights, Flat screen LED televisions, computer monitors, smartphones, and tablet screens.
Is Blue Light Bad for You?
Many of these sources of blue light are used by us often for long durations of time, especially our smart phones since we rely on it for most of our work. There have been multiple studies conducted on the long-term effects of screen exposure due to the close proximity of the screens and the amount of time we spend looking at them. Blue light penetrates all the way to the retina (the inner lining of the back of the eye) and studies have shown that too much exposure to blue light can damage light-sensitive cells in the retina. Blue light will ultimately affect the eyes and age them. Blue light can also cause changes that resemble those of macular degeneration, which can lead to permanent vision loss.
Before the rise of technology blue light wasn’t considered to be harmful or a problem since it was naturally present in sunlight that’s all around us. But now, due to the infusion of technology in our everyday lives. people suffer from ‘Digital Eye Strain’.
What is Digital Eye Strain?
It is the temporary discomfort that your eyes feel after staring at a phone or computer screen for more than two hours. The blue light from your computer screens and digital devices can decrease contrast, which leads to digital eye strain. The symptoms of it can be blurred vision, dry or red eyes, eye fatigue and headaches.
What are Anti Blue Light Lenses?
Anti blue light lenses are specially designed to block out the high-energy visible blue light from all sources. Anti blue light lenses are also known as blue light blocking glasses and their main aim is to help you sleep better.
Benefits of Anti Blue Light Lenses

Anti Blue light lenses even protect your eyes against macular degeneration and permanent damage such as eventual loss of vision.
Anti blue lenses have a blue light filter are used to create more comfortable vision in situations where there is blue light emitted directly at you hence these anti blue light lenses help make it easier for you to see.
Another amazing benefit of anti blue light lenses is that it helps provide better sleep. The anti blue light lenses block out the harmful blue light
Are There Any Benefits of Blue Light?
Like most things, blue light has both a bad and a good side. The correct amount of blue light is needed for good health as it boosts alertness, helps memory and cognitive function and elevates mood.
Lack of exposure to sunlight in children could affect the growth and development of the eyes and hence vision. Certain studies show that a deficiency in blue light exposure could contribute to the recent increase in nearsightedness or Myopia.
Blue Light also helps regulate circadian rhythm, that is the body’s natural wake and sleep cycle. Exposure to blue light during daytime hours helps maintain a healthful circadian rhythm. At the same time, too much exposure to blue light late at night, through smart phones and computers, can disturb the wake and sleep cycle. This leads to sleeping problems and daytime tiredness.
Light therapy is used to treat seasonal affective disorder (SAD), a type of depression. The light sources for this therapy emit bright white light that contains a significant amount of HEV blue light rays.
